RULES & REGULATIONS
NUMBER of PLAYERS
Number of Players each team may consist of a maximum of 4 players and a minimum of 3 players. A team may have only 3 players on the court at any time. All coed teams may have a maximum of two male competitors. All games must start with at least 3 players on each team. Any number of players (1, 2, or 3) may complete a game.
AUTHORIZED EQUIPMENT
No player shall be allowed to wear a guard, cast, hard brace or other potentially dangerous equipment on his or her elbow, hand, wrist, finger, or forearm, including equipment made of hard leather, plastic, plaster or metal—even if the equipment is covered with soft padding. Soft braces, sleeves and wraps will be allowed unless they pose a danger to other players. In addition, jewelry, hair bands and clips will not be allowed. Courtzite 3v3 Tournament Director retains the right to disallow any equipment or apparel that it judges to be dangerous or inappropriate.
BRACKET TYPES
Courtzite 3v3 Staff will place teams in the best suitable bracket. Teams will not be able to switch brackets once agreed upon prior to tournament.
TECHNICAL FOULS
A technical foul will be called for unsportsmanlike acts such as taunting or trash talk. This can involve derogatory remarks or gestures that incite or insult a player. Trash talk involves a deeply personal, verbal attack directed toward any person involved in the event. In extreme cases, the player may also be suspended from play and a coach or fan removed from the court for the remainder of that game or for the rest of the tournament. A player who aggressively encounters or assaults a court monitor, official or other tournament official shall be automatically ejected from the game and for the remainder of the current tournament. The court official may also assess a technical foul if the monitor determines that the team is stalling in the interest of preserving a winning margin. A technical foul results in one point for the offended team and possession of the ball.
FOULS
A flagrant foul may be of a violent or aggressive nature, or an act which displays unacceptable conduct. It may or may not be intentional. It may involve violent or aggressive contact such as striking, kicking, kneeing, moving under an opponent who is in the air, and crouching or hipping in a manner which could cause severe injury to the opponent. A flagrant foul result in one point for the offended team and possession of the ball. The player committing the foul will be suspended from play for the remainder of that game and possibly for the rest of the tournament. Technical, intentional, and flagrant fouls cannot be called by a player. A court official or Courtzite Tournament Director will make this call. Their decision is final.
Common reaching fouls on the ball handler do not result in free throws. *Unless the court monitor deems the reaching fouls excessive or repetitive but not reaching the animosity of a flagrant foul.
Divisions Ages 4-11, court monitors will call fouls.
All older division ages must make their own foul calls.
If a game becomes too physical with fouls, the court monitor will take over the call of fouls.
CHANGE of POSSESION
The ball will change possession after scored baskets and all free-throw attempts apart from Technical, Intentional or Flagrant fouls.
STALLING
Stalling is PROHIBITED. Excessive stalling will result in a technical foul.
WHO GETS BALL FIRST?
Coin flip/rock, paper, scissors will determine who gets the ball first.
SCORING
All made baskets inside the two-point line will be worth one point. A made basket beyond the two-point line will be worth two points. If a player is fouled in the act of shooting and makes the basket, they WILL NOT be awarded the free throw. (NO “and-ones”).
LENGTH of GAME
Games will be 20 minutes or the first team to twenty points. YOU DO NOT NEED TO WIN BY 2. If a game is still tied there will be a coin flip for possession and the first team to score TWO points will be declared the winner. If there is no score in the first 5 minutes play will stop for a coin flip and the next basket wins. YOU MAY WIN ON A FREE THROW!
CHECKED BALL
The ball must be “CHECKED” behind the take back line. The offensive player MUST pass the ball in. The on-ball defender may not cross the two-point line
TAKING IT BACK
You must take the ball back on ANY change of possession. The ball and the player must cross the take back line before a basket can be made. If a team/player does not take the ball back before a made basket, the other team will be awarded the ball and the basket does not count.
BALL OUT OF BOUNDS
All balls out of bounds WILL BE checked back at the take back line. No passing it from where the ball goes out of bounds.
JUMP BALL
First jump ball will be awarded to the team who lost the coin toss. Alternating possession thereafter.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Substitutions are ONLY ALLOWED in a “dead ball” situation.
TIME-OUTS
Each team is allowed only ONE time out. Time outs are ONE minute, and the game clock will be stopped.
PLAYER INJURY
Player(s) bleeding or with open wound WILL NOT be allowed to be in the game until bandaged up.
GAME TIMES
Teams MUST be at their court ready to play on time. There will be a 5-minute grace period. If a team is not there ready to play, they will forfeit the game. Tournament Director has the final say so.
REPORTING SCORES
A player from the winning team will need to turn in the official check in paper to the Registrations/Tournament Bracket Board area.

FINE PRINT
Designated tournament officials/Courtzite Tournament Director shall have the power to make decisions on any points not specifically covered in the Rules and Regulations and shall also have the complete authorization to interpret the intent and purpose of these Rules and Regulations. Courtzite Tournament Director also reserve the right to disqualify any player and/or team for infractions of tournament policies.
SPORTSMANSHIP PLEDGE
I realize that I am responsible for my own and my teammates conduct of play. I vow to present myself and represent my team in a sportsmanlike manner. In the event that I fail to do so, I realize that both my team and I may be disqualified from the tournament.
